Stand-up comedy on the big screen

As part of Derby Comedy Festival, running for ten days this months in the city, arts centre Quad has programmed two films exploring the crazy world of stand up comedy.

See Jerry Seinfeld in Comedian as he hits the road with new material, and head back to the ‘80s heyday of the rock-star comedian with Eddie Murphy Raw.

Comedian is a documentary from 2002 which follows Seinfeld as he embarks on his first tour since the end of his massively successful television series. Making a conscious decision to start from scratch, this documentary follows his creative process and thoughts on the art of the stand-up comedy, as he tours small comedy clubs to large arenas. Comedian (15) screens on Friday, June 13, at 6.20pm and Saturday, June 14 at 8.45pm.

Eddie Murphy’s live in-concert film from 1987 is the highest grossing stand-up film of all time. It captures Murphy at the height of his fame in the ‘80s. It also set world record for the number of times he said a certain swear word in a theatrical film (223 for those of you counting). Eddie Murphy Raw (15) screens on Friday, June 20, at 8.30pm.

Tickets are £7.80 or ££6.50 concessions. To book, call 01332 290606.
