Choir to sing Bach’s masterwork

Nottingham Harmonic Choir’s next concert is to take place on Saturday, May 10, at Southwell Cathedral.

Just as Southwell Minster was not built at one go, so Bach’s B minor Mass grew, re-using many of his previous compositions to make the whole.

This was a Lutheran composer writing a Roman Catholic Mass, now being performed in an Anglican cathedral.

Bach did not hear the complete work sung, but you have the opportunity when Nottingham Harmonic Choir perform the whole B minor Mass on May 10 at 7.30pm.

Tucked in amongst the musically rich choral sections are, unusually, duets between voice and instrument; oboe, violin, and bassoon for instance.

Thus, joining Nottingham Harmonic Choir and their musical director Richard Laing, will be the five equally excellent soloists and Bach Camerata.

Together, expect them to fill the Minster’s soaring arches with beautiful music from a monumental work.

You will not want to miss such a perfect evening, offering something for everyone.

Tickets cost £13 and £11.
