it’s a case of onwards and upwards for rising local band Dreaded Monkey after they made it through the heat of the national Surface Festival.

And not only did the band progress through, they also turned in a blistering performance in Nottingham last Sunday that saw them beat their rivals to finish in first place.

The four-piece outfit is made up of members from Ilkeston, Heanor, Eastwood and Arnold.

Tom from the band told their fans: “We would truly like to thank everyone who voted and attended. It means the world to us and we owe it all to you. We could not have done it without you and your support. Thanks for making it one awesome night to remember.”

The next heat for the competition, which is run along the lines of a national battle of the bands contest for unsigned groups, is on June 4, also in Nottingham. A limited number of tickets are available through the band’s myspace (www.myspace.com/dreadedmonkey9) or via email on dreadedmonkey9@ntlworld.com.

In addition, Dreaded Monkey have been added to the main stage line-up for the Out The Box festival 2011, to take place at Amber Valley RFC, Lower Somercotes, on June 17. Tickets for this are also avaliable through the band’s myspace and email.
