Russian works to launch season

nottingham Symphony Orchestra have announced their programme for the 2011-2012 season and will kick off with a concert at Nottingham’s Albert Hall on Saturday, November 26.

The all-Russian concert features the return to the city of talented pianist Alexei Grynyuk, for a repeat performance with the orchestra of Rachmaninov’s Third Piano Concerto.

The orchestra and Alexei teamed up two years ago at the same venue to play the work, to great acclaim, and he is back by popular demand.

The programme, to be conducted by Derek Williams, also features performances of Tchaikovsky’s colourful concert opener Capriccio Italien, and Shostakovich’s multi-faceted depiction of life under Stalin’s brutal rule, his Tenth Symphony.

Ticket details for the concert, which gets under way at 7.30pm, are available by calling 0115 9895555.
