South America comes to Crich

Leo Turner and Carlos Muñoz Villalobos will be in concert at Crich’s Glebe Field Centre on Saturday, May 17, as part of the Live and Local season.

They combine the pure tonal qualities of the classical guitar with the haunting sounds of traditional Andean instruments in performances of delicate South American magic.

The duo’s work is inspired by the great masters of the guitar such as Lauro, Villa Lobos and contemporaries such as Gustavo Santaolalla, creating new music based on beautiful melodies from South America.

You’ll hear solo guitar pieces, guitar duos, pieces for quena (traditional South American flute), ocarina, cajon, charango (Andean lute) and, of course, pan pipes. The music reflects the breath-taking scenery and lively cultural differences all over South America - from an Andean morning sunrise to Marti’s sublime poetry in the Cuban ‘Guantanamera’

The performance starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £9 for adults in advance, £10 on the door (if available), while for those 16 and under, they are £7 in advance and £8 on the door.
