Try a spot of wassailing at this concert

A Christmas Carol Concert is to take place at St Mary’s Church in Cromford on Friday, December 20.

Meet in the Mill Yard at Cromford Mills and then you can wassail by lantern light to St Mary’s Church for a carol concert and selection of readings at 7.30pm.

The concert will be followed by refreshments including festive punch and cake. Bring a torch or battery operated lantern.

Audience members are encouraged to dress in Georgian costumes if they wish.

n Bearded Theory has been named Best Small Festival at the prestigious UK Festival Awards.

The leading awards ceremony for festival organisers in the UK was held at London Roundhouse in front of an audience of some of the key figures in the industry.

Bearded Theory Festival director Steve Blount said: “It gives us huge pleasure to collect this award on behalf of everyone who makes Bearded Theory special.

“That includes our crew, our volunteers, the acts and, most of all, the people who buy the tickets and make it all possible.

“They are the people we do this for and the support we get from them makes us very proud and humble.”

The next Bearded Theory will take place from May 22-25 on a new site at Catton Park, on the Derbyshire/Staffordshire border. This year’s festival was held at Kedleston Hall, just outside Derby.

Acts so far for 2014 include Carter USM, The Stranglers, Peter Hook (Joy Division/New Order) & The Light, Oysterband (pictured), The Blockheads, Hayseed Dixie and The Orb. Soundsystem, Fishbone, King Prawn, Merry Hell.
