Banned From Utopia will perform at The Flowerpot in Derby on Thursday, December 4.

This will be an evening of Frank Zappa’s music, performed by his original musicians.

The band is made up of members from Frank Zappa’s touring bands, playing the best of Zappa live on stage in one unique performance.

Frank Zappa was arguably one of the 20th century’s most important composers. His works of more than 80 albums is by far the most voluminous and versatile of the entire generation rock – encompassing of course jazz as well as avant-garde and orchestral music. And appropriate to the complexity of his compositions, the list of his band members is a who’s who of incredible musicians.

To mark the 21 years which have passed since Frank Zappa’s untimely death on December 4 1993, a whole bunch of his most popular collaborators have re-banded to turn his multi-dimensional compositions from syllabus material at the music academies into blistering experiences in the world’s concert venues again. Two lead singers on the go are part of a truly imposing line-up, both of which were held in high esteem by the great master for many years.

The band features Robert (Bobby) Martin on vocals, keys, saxophone, French horn, harmonica; Ray White on vocals, guitar; Tom Fowler on bass, violin; Chad Wackerman – drums; Albert Wing on saxophones, flute; Jamie Kime on guitar.

China Crisis first came to prominence in the 1980s and will be performing their full band show on Friday, December 5, at the King Street venue.

You can look forward to an evening of quality pop and rock.

Then there’s a treat for fans of The Jam when tribute band The Jam’d put in an appearance at The Flowerpot on Saturday, December 6.

The Jam’s live shows were legendary and this tribute act to replicate the power and excitement of Messrs Weller, Buckler and Foxton in their prime.

The show is packed with many of those classic Jam tracks and is a must for fans of the band.
