THE Whoovers’ annual convention for fans of the BBC TV series Doctor Who is coming to Derby-based arts centre Quad next month.
The first Doctor Who convention in the city, Whooverville 3, is a chance for fans of the long running show to hook up, discuss the show and meet some of the cast and crew of both the original and current series.
In conjunction with Quad, the event will see a colourful collection of special guests, monsters and costumed characters descend on the arts centre in Derby Market Place.
Attendees will get the chance to meet stars from both the original series and the current one, which is due to return to TV screens over the Summer Bank Holiday.
As well as guest panels, there will be opportunities to obtain autographs and photos, a merchandise area with plenty of Who-related goodies on offer, displays of props and costumes, lots of monsters including the deadly Daleks and the chance to meet other fans of the series from around the country.
Special guests include two of the Doctor’s companions; Frazer Hines (who played Jamie opposite the second Doctor Patrick Troughton in the ‘60s) and Nicola Bryant (who played Peri opposite Peter Davison and Colin Baker in the ‘80s).
Joining them will be Ian McNeice, who played Winston Churchill in last year’s series and will be returning to the role later this year.
Tristan Peatfield, who was the production designer for Matt Smith’s debut series, will be making his first convention appearance at Whooverville.
Other guests include veteran Hammer actress Barbara Shelley (who appeared in the series in 1983) and Dead Ringers/The Impressions Show writer Nev Fountain, author of a number of Doctor Who audio adventures.
Whooverville 3 will take place on Saturday, September 3, from 10am until 5pm. Tickets are £35 for adults, £15 for children (under 15) or £85 for a family ticket (two adults and two children).
Tickets are available by calling Quad box office on 01332 290606 or from Quad’s website at www.derbyquad.co.uk/whats-on/other-events/whooverville
