Festival focuses on Bard’s work

performanceS of extracts from Shakespeare’s works will be given on Friday and Saturday, December 9 and 10, at Strutts in Belper.

On the Friday evening, the Chevin Singers will be performing, along with recitations from members of the U3A Poetry Society. Also on the programme will be actors of all ages presenting extracts from a broad range of Shakespeare’s plays.

On Saturday, the programme will be slightly different, with some young people from Belper School using the performance opportunity to work towards their Silver and Gold Arts Awards. Also on the Saturday, from 10am, the Strutts building, on Derby Road, will be open to visitors and on show will be the Shakespeare Exhibition, which is free.

The U3a Shakespeare group has prepared visual and musical presentations and there will be a range of related artefacts on view. There will also be the opportunity to purchase a quiz, all proceeds to the Tom McGonigal Trust Fund.

Performances begin at 7.30pm and tickets cost £5. They can be purchased from the office at Strutts, or from the News shop on King Street, Belper.
