Magical night at the mills

Midsummer Magic with 1623 Theatre Company
Midsummer Magic with 1623 Theatre Company

The critically acclaimed 1623 Theatre Company will be back at Cromford Mills on Saturday, June 15.

They will be performing Midsummer Magic, where Shakespeare’s fairies come out to play with mischief on their minds, starting at 7.30pm.

1623 has a reputation for innovative and unusual takes on the Shakespeare theme, and these have attracted both devotees of the Bard, as well as those who have never previously seen the appeal of his work.

In Midsummer Magic, feisty Mustardseed, with help from her friends Moth and the grumpy Cobweb, leads a rebellion against the power-crazed Fairy Queen, while trying to keep it a secret from goody-two-shoes Peaseblossom.

Hugely entertaining and fun for all the family, this rather different take on the characters from A Midsummer Night’s Dream will entrance younger audiences and entertain more mature audience members.

Catherine Roth, from the Arkwright Society, said: “We are delighted to welcome 1623 back to Cromford Mills for what promises to be a fun and entertaining performance.

“It will also be a great introduction to Shakespeare for younger members of the family.”

£20 tickets include the performance at 7.30pm with a two-course pre or post theatre dinner at 6.30pm or 8.30pm. (Tickets must be booked in advance). £10 tickets are available for the performance only. (Advance booking is recommended)

It is advised to dress suitably for a Derbyshire summer evening.
