A MAJOR highlight of the forthcoming winter season at the Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall will be the spectacular family pantomime Sleeping Beauty, opening on December 10.

Starring comedian and all-round entertainer Joe Pasquale as Muddles and Ceri Dupree as Queen Passionella, this festive production also features superb interactive 3D special effects.

Also as part of the season, one-night concerts at the Royal Concert Hall will feature some of the biggest names on tour this winter, including Alfie Boe, One Direction, Nigel Kennedy, Belinda Carlisle, James Morrison, Katherine Jenkins, plus comedy from Chris Addison and Russell Kane.

Aussie legend Rolf Harris will also perform at the venue in December – his only date outside London.

Drama fans will be delighted to see the return of the highly-acclaimed thriller An Inspector Calls, direct from its fourth West End run, and the world premiere of The King’s Speech, the original play on which the award-winning film was based.

An action-packed musical adaptation of Arthur Ransome’s Swallows and Amazons is another must see production this season. For musicals fans, David Essex returns from the West End with his roller-coaster ride of a musical All The Fun of The Fair in January and the sumptuous revival of Rodgers And Hammerstein’s The King and I visits in February.

Opera North return to Nottingham with Puccini’s Madama Butterfly and new productions of Bellini’s Norma and Handel’s Giulio Cesare.

A feast of festive-themed concerts awaits audiences of all musical tastes in December including Only Men Aloud Christmas Show, A West End Christmas featuring show-stopping numbers from the greatest West End and Broadway musicals, Nottingham Harmonic Society’s Family Carol Concerts, The Hallé Christmas Concert featuring West End leading lady Shona Lindsay, and sinfonia ViVA New Year’s Eve Classical Gala.

More classical highlights for the winter season include the John Wilson Orchestra’s Hooray for Hollywood, a celebration of the Golden Age of cinema soundtracks.
