Soap star’s role in musical favourite

hit West End musical The Sound of Music is coming to Nottingham.

The Andrew Lloyd Webber classic will star Verity Rushworth (Emmerdale’s Donna Windsor) as Maria.

The show tells the story of the Von Trapp family’s musical success and flight from their beloved Austria across the mountains.

It includes ‘Edelweiss’, ‘My Favorite Things’, ‘Do-Re-Mi’, ‘Climb Every Mountain’, ‘The Lonely Goatherd’ and the title song ‘The Sound of Music’.

The production is being directed by Jeremy Sams, with choreography by Arlene Phillips.

Keiron Crook plays Captain von Trapp and Marilyn Hill Smith stars as Mother Abbess in the show that comes to The Theatre Royal direct from the London Palladium.

The 1965 Hollywood film version of the play, which starred Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, won five Oscars including Best Picture.

The tour is in town from Friday July 15 until Saturday August 6. On Monday evenings the show starts at 7pm, Tuesday to Saturday evenings 7.30pm and Wednesday and Saturday matinees begin at 2.30pm.
