The renowned CBeebies TV hit Grandpa in my Pocket continues to make its stage debut at Nottingham Playhouse this week with the run set to continue until August 11.

This brand new Grandpa in my Pocket stage show, titled Teamwork!, taps into themes at the heart of the TV series, such as the playful cross-generational relationship between grandparent and grandchild, but also exploits the uniquely intimate and creatively unconstrained qualities of theatre.

Nottingham Playhouse has produced a show which will delight and engage audiences through an ensemble storytelling technique with song, dance, physicality, puppetry and real interaction with the audience, who are invited to help to tell the story.

Teamwork! is playing for a month at Nottingham Playhouse, with plans to tour nationwide next year. The show is directed by Rosamunde Hutt and designed by Nettie Scriven. Kate Edgar is musical director and Matt Dilley is music arranger. Roman Stefanski is puppetry consultant.

Mellie Buse and Jan Page, co-founders of Adastra Creative, writers and producers of Grandpa in my Pocket said: “Nottingham Playhouse is the perfect partner for this project. They have embraced all the core elements of the television series that have made it so popular, and are totally in tune with the brand. We have an incredibly accomplished team working to bring the show to life on the theatre stage and believe this will offer a different experience of Grandpa, without losing any of its very special magic and charm.”

Nottingham Playhouse artistic director Giles Croft and chief executive Stephanie Sirr said: “Everyone at Nottingham Playhouse is thrilled to be creating this first-ever stage interpretation of such a well-loved children’s television show.

“We have assembled an outstanding creative team to bring Jason, his Grandpa and their friends to the stage; we are confident that this new story, Teamwork!, magically brought to life with inspired design, songs, puppetry and an exceptional cast, will delight all of Grandpa in my Pocket’s many fans, and also introduce a new audience to the magic of live theatre.”

Grandpa in my Pocket is one of the highest rating shows on CBeebies and is shown to over 104 territories worldwide. It has received a hat trick of BAFTA nominations and is winner of the BAFTA for best children’s show in Wales. The series is developed and produced by Adastra Creative with participation from Finance Wales.

Visitors to Nottingham Playhouse can also see the original props from the television series as the plane, car and train will be on display throughout the run of the show.
