World War One tale at Derby Theatre

A touring production of Sebastian Faulks’s moving World War One drama Birdsong comes to Derby Theatre from April 16-20.

This story of love, courage and sacrifice, set before and during the Great War, is an epic tale based on the author’s best-selling book.

In pre-war France, young Englishman Stephen Wraysford embarks on a passionate and dangerous affair with the beautiful Isabelle Azaire that turns their world upside down.

As the war breaks out, Stephen must lead his men through the carnage of the Western Front and along the sprawling tunnels that lie deep under the ground.

Faced with the unprecdented horror of the Battle of the Somme, Stephen clings to the memory of Isabelle as his world explodes around him.

Following on from the hit West End production and the BBC 1 adaptation, this is a chance to see the new touring version, which has been gaining rave reviews on its journey around the country.

Newcomer Jonathan Smith takes the starring role of Stephen Wraysford with Sarah Jayne Dunn as Isabelle.

Tickets to see Birdsong at Derby Theatre are available by calling the box office on 01332 593939.
