Mansons Fields

Seven houses made up the terrace known as Mansons Fields. Note in the centre right of the photo the toilet and ashpits for two of the houses; those for the other five were at the back, almost adjoining Nottingham Canal.

Albert Smith and Lilly Kirkham from Heanor are pictured on their wedding day. Like many couples in those days they started married life in their parents house, in this case with Albert’s father Isaac Smith in the parlour of number two Mansons Fields. Other families living in the terrace at that time were the Hardings, the Smiths, Mrs Clarke, the Browns, the Booths, Mrs Allen and the Creswells. The families moved out of the houses in 1932 to live in the newly built Addison Villas.
