Society’s finest ever show

Cole Porter’s classic romantic musical comedy ‘Anything Goes’ was given the full treatment by the theatre group which hit the heights with this dazzling production.

A mesmerising performance by leading lady Rosemary Lishman in the role of Reno Sweeney backed by the impressive Martin Belcher as gangster and stockbroker Billy Crocker and the terrific contributions of relative NOWMADS newcomer Jonno Wilson as Lord Evelyn Oakley provided the pinnacle for success.

This was no ordinary production. In fact the first 30-strong NOWMADS team under the direction of Gillian Williams excelled in what was arguably one of the society’s finest shows since its inception in 1979.

A fabulous score played to perfection by a seven-strong orchestra, under the baton of NOWMADS new musical director John Wilson, dazzling dance routines, stunning costumes, slick scene changes and brilliant casting and singing were all admirable ingredients of this feel good show.

Emma Heydon, Tom Bailey and Hannah Lishman, all excellent supporting roles and a chorus full of energy and vitality made major contributions.

There were many highlights, a full blooded rendition of ‘Blow Gabriel Blow’ by the leading lady and full Ensemble, a show-stopping tap routine featuring an exhillerating version of Anything Goes and a brilliant comedic ‘I’ve got the Gypsy in Me’ sung by Jonno Wilson with fabulous dance moves incorporated.

This was no ordinary production by NOWMADS, in fact Cole Porter’s song ‘It’s delightful, it’s delicious it’s lovely’, summed it up perfectly.

NOWMADS next production will be the pantomime Sleeping Beauty.
