THIS is a photo of Forty Bridges in Awsworth.
The bridges ran from Kimberley to Giltbrook. Some say there were 30 archways and others say there were 35 or even 40.
Although author Bryan Maloney tends to think it was more like 45.
The viaduct was sadly taken down in order to build the A610 bypass in the 1960s.
It was said there were 6,000,000 bricks that made up the Forty Bridges.
In the foreground we can see the ‘red hills’ which was residue from the Naphtha House factory.
The factory manufactured Naphtha, as well as gas for brewery uses. The site was available for children to play on – something that would not happen in this day and age due to health and safety.
