A COUPLE who met at Walker Street School in Eastwood have just celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.

Len and Beryl Hemstock have lived in Pickering Avenue, Eastwood, for the last 57 years and celebrated the milestone earlier this month at home with family visits.

Beryl said: “Who would have thought that a friendship formed as teenagers would have led to 60 happy years or marriage!

“Our lives have been blessed and we have a wonderful family.”

The couple, who even attended the same primary school, dated for one-and-a-half years before tying the knot at Eastwood Parish Church in 1951.

They have three children, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Len spent all his working life in the hosiery trade working at Wolsey in Kimberley, Aristoc in Langley Mill and Jaegar in Hucknall.

Beryl also worked in hosiery, as a mender.

Len, 87, and Beryl, 83, enjoy dancing and bingo and Len is an avid stamp and coin collector.

Years ago he used to breed budgies.
