Adoption figures double this year

New government statistics have revealed that not only has the number of children being adopted in Nottinghamshire doubled from last year, but the county also has the greatest number of adoptions in the East Midlands.

This year, 90 children have been adopted in Nottinghamshire - compared to just 45 children last year, and 80 children in Derbyshire.

Secretary of State for Education Nicky Morgan explained that the reason for this increase is due to changes in the adoption process including introducing rules which require councils to actively consider fostering and adoption and ensuring ethnicity was not prioritised over other factors.
