DECATHLON in Giltbrook is collecting old football kits to send to people in Africa.

Despite being thousands of miles away, children and adults in Africa love football and avidly follow British teams, but owning a shirt is just dream.

With new replica kits every year, staff at the Giltbrook Retail Park store are asking people to donate their old strips instead of letting them gather dust.

People can also donate socks, shorts, shinpads, boots, balls and any other football accessories.

Store manager Jeremie DeBeuf said: “This is a fantastic initiative. Many of us have old football shirts lying around, unused due to wanting the latest shirt. With the new season just around the corner, we ask those with any old replica shirts to drop them into store for a great cause.”

The store is working on the initiative with the charity Afrikit.
