School leavers in the area unsure of their next step are being urged to consider an apprenticeship by Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Futures.
Futures has its own apprenticeship agency and works with local employers to create apprenticeship opportunities and with local young people to secure those roles.
Matt Smatt, Futures Apprenticeship agency manager, said: “Leaving school can be an exciting yet daunting time for young people.
“Many school leavers still find themselves unsure of which way to turn and worry about finding an effective first step into employment and their future careers.
“Apprenticeships give school leavers a chance to earn a wage and gain practical work-based skills which are essential in today’s employment market.
“There are a whole host of opportunities available through Futures for young people interested in apprenticeships.
“Many people still believe apprenticeships are only for trades such as painting and decorating or building, but nothing could be further from the truth.
“Sectors with apprenticeship opportunities include business administration, customer service, engineering, childcare, health and social care, youth work, hospitality and horticulture to name but a few.”
Most apprenticeships have been taken up by 16-24 year olds, but there are apprenticeship opportunities for people over 24 too.
