Cotmanhay Junior School has released its very own school song as pupils celebrate their victory in achieving the Artsmark Award.
The kids released their music video “Our Moment to Shine” on YouTube on May 1, featuring every pupil in the school.
The song, written by headteacher Simon Robinson, is a celebration of the great achievements of the children at the school.
Simon said: “We are using the song to promote the wonderful work of all the children at the school - particularly in the arts subjects.
“We have an exciting curriculum at Cotmanhay Junior School.
“We want our children to sing, dance, laugh and have fun as much as we want them to be successful academically.”
The praise was echoed by author of the Football Academy series of children’s books, Tom Palmer, when he visited the school last week.
Tom tweeted: “Deeply moved and excited by the inspirational work being done by teachers – and children – at Cotmanhay Junior School.”
Mr Robinson gave special thanks to art teacher Rob Clarke, who played guitar on the track, and Andy Wright who filmed and co-ordinated the school’s application.
Artsmark is Arts Council England’s nationally recognised award for demonstrating excellence in arts and cultural provision.
It can be achieved by any school, showing they have set values in arts and culture and promotes students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
Assessors commented that “the school’s application demonstrates the very high value they have for the arts” and that “it was an absolutely inspiring visit.”
Mr Robinson added: “The Artsmark accreditation was a rigorous process, involving a lengthy application and a validation visit.
“Our assessor commented that the school’s application demonstrates the very high value they have for the arts.
“We use our YouTube channel to celebrate the amazing work being done at the school and to demonstrate our love of learning. We hope many hundreds of people will log on to see our children and staff in action.”
