Awsworth bridge and the Gate Inn pub

THE Gate Inn pub in Awsworth can be seen through the left-hand archway of the bridge before it was demolished.

The bridge was knocked down in 1974.

Bryan Maloney, a local historian and then author of the book this photo was taken from, said: “This must have been a blow to the landlord of the Gate Inn, as it was the main road to Nottingham, but when the bridges were removed the route was altered to take traffic onto the new A610.”
