Chemist shop moves back to original home

An Eastwood chemist shop has moved across the road back to its original home – 18 years since it left.

Burrows & Close in Nottingham Road has moved across the road into a smaller building where it used to be based years ago after seeing a decline in shop sales.

But the move has also been led by a need to increase the size of its dispensary following an increase in prescriptions.

Staff held an opening ceremony and cut a ribbon to officially open the new store.

Pharmacist and manager Amar Iqbal said: “Shop sales have gone down. The sales area is smaller which reflects the difficult retail trading conditions we face but on the other hand the dispensary is a lot larger.

“We needed a larger dispensary because a lot of our revenue comes from prescriptions now.”

The new building was previously Memories card and gift shop, which recently closed down.

Burrows & Close opened in 1973 but in need of more retail space in 1993, it moved across the road into bigger premises and the owners opened Memories in the old building.

But with the tough economic climate affecting trade, the chemist has moved back home.
