Chief thrown into firing line with challenges

The county's fire chief is preparing to put himself through the paces in a bid to raise money for charity.

John Buckley, Nottinghamshire’s Chief Fire Officer (CFO), will be taking part in the annual Chief’s Challenge with the aim of raising £10,000 for The Fire Fighters Charity. He will be joined in his challenge by Deputy Chief Fire Officer Wayne Bowcock, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Craig Parkin and staff from across the service.

Over the course of several weeks the team will face a range of mentally and physically draining tasks – each of them revolving around a ‘10K’ theme set by the CFO himself.

Amongst the challenges planned so far are a ten kilometre run around Hucknall in full fire kit and breathing apparatus, a ten kilometre cycle relay on a static bike in Arnold and a ten kilometre hose run in Misterton.

He said: “Raising money for The Fire Fighters Charity and supporting it in all the work it does is something we’re all really passionate about here at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.

“I really hope that the people in our local communities will dig deep and get behind us.”
