A church in Greasley will mark 100 years since the start of the First World War with a special exhibition and service of remembrance.

On August 4, St Mary’s Church will host an exhibition of archive material, displays provided by the local community and a “wall of poppies” created by people of all ages from the parish.

In the evening a service of remembrance will be held in the church during which visitors will be invited to light a candle and pay homage to those who died serving their country.

The exhibition will be open from 1.30pm and the evening service will begin at 7pm with light refreshments served afterwards.
