Eastwood Community Football Club is set to forge ahead with a new artificial pitch thanks to a £110,000 grant from Broxtowe Borough Council.
The authority has approved £110,000 of Section 106 contributions towards a new 3G Pitch at the ground.
The Club, which took over operation of the football ground at Coronation Park in July 2014, has submitted a bid to the FA and the Football Foundation for the develop of the development of a major “stadium” 3G pitch, which would be the first of its kind in Nottinghamshire.
Brian Willows, one of the club’s four directors, said: “This is absolutely superb news. Not just for us - the pitch will be for the whole community to use and will allow us to play 24/7 with teams from all the age ranges.”
The FA is currently assessing the application with a decision expected on October 29.
Eastwood Community Football Club CIC has worked hard over the past year to develop the ground and engage with the local community to provide opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to play football.
The ground currently has only one pitch and use it limited due to damage which could arise from over-use of the grass surface.
The new 3G pitch is hoped to be in place by Christmas.
The Section 106 cash came from developments at the former Castle College and The Island near Plumptre Way.
