Nuthall residents also quizzed the Oxylane director about the impact the site would have on existing leisure facilities in the area.
Residents and councillors said the new site would include so many sporting facilities, it would leave existing centres and exercise classes at risk.
Cllr Owen said: “People were worried about other provision such as Kimberley Leisure Centre and whether it would survive such tough competition and the likelihood it might close.
“People were getting quite angry,” he said.
