EASTWOOD Collieries Male Voice Choir presented cheques to the Royal British Legion and Cancer Research UK after raising £20,000 at its annual Sounds Sensational concert.

BBC News presenter Dominic Heale was invited to the choir’s rehearsal to present the cheques to the charities’ representatives John Jackson and Andrea Day.

The Sounds Sensational concert at Nottingham’s Royal Concert Hall last October was hosted by the choir and Mr Heale and featured six choirs and the world renowned Band of the Blues and Royals.

Mr Heale said it was a “prestigious concert” which lived up to its “sensational” billing.

Choir secretary James Ferrabee thanked everybody for their ‘overwhelming support’.
