Council helps fund fight

A TOWN council has agreed to make cash available to fund the fight against plans to opencast mine land around Cossall and Trowell.

Broxtowe MP Anna Soubry announced that Kimberley Town Council will be adding its weight to the battle against UK Coal’s plan in her newsletter this week.

She said she was ‘delighted’.

She said: “I hope other parish councils will follow suit.

“I’m arranging another meeting with elected representatives from parish, town, borough and county councils in the next few weeks.”

Plans for a public meeting are in the pipeline, she said.

Villagers are opposed to the plans to mine land which many people refer to as ‘DH Lawrence land’ at Shortwood Farm between Trowell, Cossall and Awsworth.
