Council tribute to stars

Nottinghamshire County Council has paid tribute to Ollie Hynd and Charlotte Henshaw as the swimmers recorded the latest medal successes for the county at London 2012.

The county council is following the fortunes of around ten athletes – including Ollie and Charlotte - funded through its Shining Stars programme.

It was another memorable evening at the Aquatics Centre - for Charlotte Henshaw and Ollie Hynd who are current Shining Star recipients.

Athletes who receive Shining Stars grants get annual funding of £2,012 to help with their transport and other costs to allow them to concentrate on their sport.

Ollie now has gold, silver and bronze at these Games, having won the men’s 200m individual medley SM8, and Charlotte clinched silver in the 100m breaststroke SB6, having earlier broke the Paralympic record in the heats.

Ollie’s brother Sam, who has also received support from the county council, finished fourth in the men’s 200m individual medley SM8, and has also medalled at these Games.

Meanwhile wheelchair basketballer Matt Byrne is into the semi-finals for ParalympicsGB after beating Turkey 75-70. Matt, another Shining Star funded athlete, from Trowell, plays club rugby for the Wolverhampton Rhinos.
