A new group formed to meet the needs of people in the local community with an interest in horticulture, flower , fruit and vegetable growing, and with culinary skills, is holding its inaugural show on Sunday August 24th.

Greasley Sports and Community Centre will provide the facilities for the first ever Beauvale Horticultural Show the name of the new initiative which has been supported by Nottinghamshire County Council and Caunton Engineering.

An experienced team of officials, made up of Karen Sutton (chairman), Shirley Picton (secretary), Derek Shaw (vice-chairman), and Brian Sutton (treasurer), will be the driving forces behind the Beauvale Horticultural Show.

“Much like any other Horticultural show, ours will have a format that is familiar to many, providing opportunities for amateur growers and those in the community with a flair for floral design, and culinary excellence to showcase their talents.” said Karen.

“Children will be given an opportunity to shine too in various classes which have been specifically put into place especially to encourage their talents and to gain their interest.”

Former Greasley Parish Council chairman June Layton is right behind the new horticultural show which she says “is aimed at encouraging ordinary people in the local community to share their talents while at the same time winning prizes in the respective categories which will play a part in the show’s success.”

Nottinghamshire county councillor Philip Owen has given the Beauvale Horticultural Society group a big show of support by donating £300 from his divisional fund, which helps local groups and organisations.

“There is a huge interest in gardening, flower growing , baking, floral art. and being involved in horticulture.” said Cllr Owen.

“Despite a reduced funding budget I am pleased to help this new show to get up and running.”
