Counterfeit team awarded

A TRADING standards team that cracked a counterfeit goods scam in Eastwood has been awarded.

The trading standards “Scambusters” team, managed by Nottinghamshire County Council, received a prestigious national award in recognition of its ‘excellent work’ during 2010 protecting consumers in the region from threats posed by fake goods.

The investigation resulted in Stuart Peach from Eastwood being jailed for four years and Tony Hall from Mansfield being sentenced to 10 months in prison for their part in importing thousands of counterfeit items from China.

The counterfeit items included fake ghd hair straighteners which were found to be dangerous and a potential fire hazard.
