Nottinghamshire is better prepared for a harsh winter than ever before with three tonnes more salt than Government recommendations.
The county council has 12,000 tonnes of grit.
Three tonnes have been stockpiled in the county’s undercover salt barns, and the rest is in open space.
In addition, the county council has written to parish councils to discuss working together again, providing local support during another cold snap like those earlier this year.
Many councils are considering appointing snow wardens to act as a link between villages and the county council’s district highways managers.
