Burglar jailed after stealing £3,000 from pub in Eastwood

A man who stole more than £3000 in cash from a pub in Eastwood has been jailed for 16 months.

At 4am on 18 March 2020, Ryan Dunning, 42, of no fixed address, broke into Oliver’s Pub in Eastwood and stole tins containing cash.

Police were called and were informed that Dunnning had left the pub and fled the scene riding a bicycle. It was thought that he was in possession of weapons and had not travelled far.

When officers arrived, an area search commended and Dunning was spotted pushing a bicycle up Church Street. Officers intercepted and arrested Dunning after the cash tins from the pub were found to be in his possession.

They also recovered bag containing axes, pliers, cable cutters and other items nearby.

He was sentenced to 16 months in prison for burglary, possession of a bladed article and possession of a class A drug at Nottingham Crown Court via video link yesterday (Friday 22 May 2020).

Detective Constable Andrew Sibley, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Thanks to quick work from our response officers, we were able to arrest Dunning near the scene and recover stolen items.

“Nottinghamshire Police is committed to protecting local businesses and we will investigate all reports of burglary thoroughly.

“This incident could have had a devastating impact on the pub both financially and for the owners and I hope today’s sentence brings some closure for the victim involved.”
