A FIRM which sold a faulty ladder to a disabled man has been fined nearly £6,400.
Roger Vickerstaff from Long Eaton bought the Genius4-step Safety Ladder, from Home Shopping Selections in Kent via mail order.
He called Derbyshire County Council trading standards after the locking device to keep the £69.95 ladder steady did not work.
Trading standards bought another ladder and sent both to be tested. Lab results revealed they were unsafe.
At Derby Magistrates Court on Thursday the company pleaded guilty to two charges of supplying a product which failed to meet relevant safety standards and was fined £3,000, costs of £3,315, £69.95 in compensation and a £15 victim surcharge.
The firm told the court it had made changes to its system of checks and procedures since the complaint.
