Two arrested after OAP ‘knocked down’ in Sandiacre

TWO men have been arrested this week after a 93-year-old man was left with leg injuries after he was knocked down in a suspected hit and run.

The pensioner had been crossing Derby Road in Sandiacre, when he was knocked to the ground by a light-coloured van on Monday April 30 at about 3.10pm.

The van allegedly failed to stop and drove away from the scene, near to the off licence and the junction with Friesland Drive.

Police identified the vehicle as a Citroen Belingo.

Two men, aged 25 and 63, have now been arrested on suspicion of failing to report an accident and failing to stop at an accident.

They could also face charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice

They are currently on bail pending further enquiries.

A police spokesman said that the 93-year-old man is making a good recovery having suffered a deep laceration to his leg.
