Deli up for top food accolade


A quaint Langley Mill delicatessen is celebrating after being shortlisted for a prestigious regional award.

Basilia on Cromford Road, is competiting alongside nine other deli’s and farm shops to be named the best in the Midlands and be in with a chance of winning a free stand at the BBC Good Food Show at the NEC, Birmingham from November 27-30.

Over the next few weeks a team of mystery shoppers, 
researchers and reviewers will visit all ten shortlisted businesses to judge who will be crowned number one in the region.

Basilia is no stranger to receiving plaudits after 
picking up a coveted 
Certificate of Excellence from travel and review site Trip 
Advisor earlier this year.

Katy Truss, who manages the scheme for the BBC Good Food Show said Basilia had received an impressive amount of nominations from 
customers who had heaped praise on both their service and food.

The delicatessen’s owners Roy and Cathy
Mycock said they were delighted to be nominated. Ro y added:
“We weren’t aware people had been nominating us for the shortlist, so when we found out that we were in the final ten last week it came as quite a surprise.”

Cathy praised her staff ‘s hard work, adding: “All of the staff here are so excited to have made the shortlist. It really shows that hard work and dedication pays off at the end of the day.

“We’re just going to continue doing what we normally do on a day-to-day basis.

“We’re hoping that we can help put Langley Mill on the map as it’s a great community.”
