Organisers of the relaunched Eastwood market are crying out for traders in a desperate attempt to save it from dying - just weeks after opening.
The weekly market at The Hollies has space for up to 16 stalls - but so far has only attracted five stalls since trading began in March.
And market manager Clair Storey fears that if it doesn’t start attracting more stall holders soon, the market may have to close.
Clair said: “I feel like crying because I don’t want it to fail.
“If it carries on like this we are not going to be able to afford the rent for the land and will have to close it.
“I am doing everything I can to build the market up but I need more support from stall holders and the public.
“We are bringing community spirit into Eastwood and people should try and put back into that.”
Clair, who also runs a weekly market in Beeston, said having a thriving market will also bring much-needed customers back into the town centre to help boost other businesses in the Eastwood area.
Organisers worked together with Eastwood Town Council to bring the market back, after the old one folded in 2015, leaving Eastwood labelled a “ghost town” by residents.
The market began as a success at the beginning of March, but some traders have already dropped out of the market, leaving the number of traders at around five every week.
Organisers and councillors are hopeful it will be a success, and will help to bring in “much-needed” trade across the whole town centre.
Clair has advertised the stall spaces on more than 20 websites and Facebook pages in a last-ditch attempt to attract more traders.
The stalls currently trading on the market include flowers and plants, makeup, haberdashery, garden ornaments and arts, crafts and gifts.
“It is a friendly market with nice traders.
“And I like to think I am an approachable person, so if there is anybody out there with questions, I would urge them to get in touch.”
All types of stalls are being welcomed to enquire about trading on the market.
For more information or to get a quote for a “special” stall price, call Clair on 07510304615.
Traders can also enquire by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
The market is held in The Hollies car park in the town centre every Thursday from 8am to 4pm.
