A new nature reserve will be designated in Eastwood after a unanimous decision at Broxtowe Borough Council’s Cabinet meeting.
Hall Park on Mansfield Road will be declared a Local Nature Reserve following discussions with Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust.
The site lies on an important wildlife corridor and has wetland habitats associated with the Nether Green and Beauvale Brooks, as well as grassland and woodland features, and many people enjoy a range of sports and outdoor activities on the site.
The Council has a target of declaring one new Local Nature Reserve each year and this will be the 14th to be awarded the status in the Borough.
Councillor Greg Marshall, Portfolio Holder for Environment, said: “I am incredibly proud of the Council’s commitment to protecting and enhancing the natural environment for future generations to come by declaring sites like this which provide opportunities for education, enjoyment and recreation, help to attract visitors and preserve links with the local community’s past.”
A management plan has been prepared to consider ways of improving the site for wildlife without impacting on the many sports and recreational activities.
