Footballer Jeff Astle

Jeff Astle was the captain of Devonshire Drive School Junior Football Team in Eastwood, and in 1952 scored 18 goals in a 22-0 win.

He signed as an amatuer for Notts County in 1957 and turned professional in 1960. Jeff was transferred to West Bromwich Albion in September 1964.

In the 1967-8 season he was the leading marksman in the first division with 26 league goals.

He scored the winning goal in the 1968 FA cup final and played for England five times.
