A COMMUNITY centre in Selston has seen a dramatic rise in the take up of its services following free advice and support from two North Nottinghamshire businesses.
The Tin Hat Centre in Selston asked Business in the Community (BITC) if it could help improve the fortunes of the centre by asking its members for advice on marketing its services.
BITC East Midlands runs Nottinghamshire ProHelp, an organised group of businesses that give their time for free to help community organisations. Mansfield-based award-winning PR & Marketing agency, Parker PR, took on the project and enlisted the help of Initial Design from Selston to create a new brand image, re-design promotional material and radically improve the centre’s website.
Centre Manager, Paulette Sturman said: “The new logo, website and facebook page have enabled us to reach a wider audience with a professional image.
“This has already increased centre usage. The support has given the centre a real boost.
“Course take-up figures have already increased since the launch of the promotional material with our new logo.
“None of this would have been possible without ProHelp and the two members who helped us.”
Graham Parker of Parker PR believes that businesses are missing a trick in not joining ProHelp. “Providing pro bono services like we do is not about ‘putting something back’ into communities; it’s about making a contribution, boosting the local economies and spotting training opportunities for yourself or your staff.”
n The Tin Hat Centre provides a wide-range of services to local people including training and education courses, room hire and the housing of several community groups.
