Get snapping for our Life Thru the Lens

Entries are pouring in for this year’s photo competition, including this recent entry of a bird of prey and its unlucky dinner snapped by Patrick David Fogg of Minster Gardens, Eastwood.

The Advertiser staged Specsavers Life Thru the Lens last year in conjunction with Specsavers of Bath Street, Ilkeston and it was a huge success.

So it was a clearcut decision whether or not to run it again this year.

And once again we have joined forces with Specsavers to offer a top digital camera, worth hundreds of pounds, as the top prize,

Now all that is left is for you to take a look at our rules (SEE RIGHT) and then grab your camera or smartphone and get out and about in the area to take your snaps.

The subject you choose is up to you but it must have a clear link to Eastwood or Kimberley.

It could be an image that captures our industrial past, a shot of an eyecatching green space, local wildlife or even a local sporting occasion.

The only real limit is your ambition and imagination.

The next step is to email or post your entry to us with certain details (SEE RIGHT).

The competition will run for several months to allow you to take advantage of the changing seasons and there are no age restrictions.

We will also showcase some of your entries each week in the paper and online.

Once we close the entries a team of judges will sift through all the brilliant photographs and narrow them down to ten finalists before deciding on the winner.

There will then be a presentation night at the Specsavers store where all the finalists images will be exhibited.

Ilkeston Specsavers director Krishna Parmar said: “We were delighted with how things went last year.

“There were some stunning photos entered and I can’t wait to see what people come up with this time around.”

Rules: Email your entries to or post them to Specsavers Life Thru The Lens, Eastwood&Kimberley Advertiser, 8 Heanor Road, Ilkeston DE7 8ER.

If emailing your photograph, it must be attached in jpeg format as a separate attachment and the email must say Life Thru The Lens in the subject field. For postal entries, the envelope must be marked as Specsavers Life Thru The Lens.

Photographs must have been taken within the last year and the competition is limited to TWO entries per person.

Details that must be included with each entry are:

Where and when each photograph was taken;

The photographer’s FULL name, age and FULL postal address;

And day and evening contact telephone numbers;

No computer-manipulated images will be accepcted and photographs must be your own work. Entries are copyright of the Eastwood&Kimberley Advertiser.

The finalists and winner will be chosen by a panel of judges and their decision is final.

Usual Advertiser competition rules apply.
