A COUPLE in Westwood were treated to a visit from MP Gloria De Piero for their golden wedding anniversary.
John and Pearl Booth had an open house with old friends and family visiting to mark the milestone last week, and their daughter Karen Kerns arranged a surprise visit from the MP.
Pearl said: “It was a complete surprise and very nice to meet her. We read about her in the Advertiser, but we’ve never met her before. She was really nice. She gave me some flowers and a card.”
The couple said they had a ‘fantastic’ day seeing family and friends they had not seen in years.
They are being treated to a trip to Durham by their daughter at Easter and given tickets to a show in Derby by their granddaughter.
When asked what the secret to a long-lasting marriage was, Pearl said ‘being there for one and other’ and John said ‘always let the lady believe she’s right even when she’s wrong!’.
Gloria said: “Their daughter, Karen, deserves a special mention for organising it and tracking down all their friends and relatives.
“A lot of hard work must have gone into it all and they must be really proud of her.”
Karen said: “It went fantastically well. There were over 40 people there and everyone came and stayed until the evening.”
