A member of the Salvation Army has written a book about Romany Gypsies in Eastwood in 1790.

Mrs Wharmby’s first novel, Gilded Wagons, sold 74 copies within the first two weeks of it being published.

The book tells the story of how the gypsies made their home in Eastwood and the love they had for their children, animals and the countryside.

It is a love story entwined in a murder tale.
