More than 1,200 revellers flocked to a spectacular, free summer Play Day in Kimberley.

The event is one of four organised by Broxtowe Borough Council’s arts and events team and saw big crowds converge on the Kimberley School playing field.

Given the honour of officially opening the sun-soaked day was the Mayor of Broxtowe, Cllr Stan Heptinstall.

There was barely a dull moment and with superheroes playing their parts alongsides characters from Disney movie Frozen, a children’s band and a Robinson Crusoe themed puppet show.

The hugely popular Airborne Adventure inflatable, a boot camp challenge on a giant assault course, and NERF gun warriors doing battle in a safe environment, were big attractions.

Imaginative arts and crafts workshops with links to World War One, face-painting, nail and beauty art, drumming sessions, KMK go-karting and activitites for the under-5s added to the enjoyment.

“Fantastic!” was how parent Tammy Smith, from Kimberley, described the day.

“When you are trying to keep young children occupied for a long period of time this is the kind of facility that is a parent’s dream,” she said.

Another mum, Lynsey Walker, also from Kimberley said: “It is lovely to be able to relax knowing that your children are happy and safe.”

Rebecca Conway, who travelled from Long Eaton with her family, said: “It was a brilliant fun-filled occasion. Well done Broxtowe Borough Borough Council!”

Among the other play days will be one in Eastwood next Wednesday (August 27).
