Huge crowds turned out this week for festive cheer, carols, fireworks and Santa at the annual Kimberley Christmas Lights switch-on.

Revellers flocked to see the official launch of the festive season on Friday and were mesmerised by a jaw-dropping fireworks display.

The event started at Holy Trinity Church Hall with festive carol singing from the Salvation Army.

This was followed by a spectacular display from local dance group Velocity and heart-warming singing by Kimberley Toddler group.

Tealights were then distributed to everyone and Santa led the crowd in his sleigh up to Toll Bar Square. The entertainment here was provided by the band Soul Town Six.

At 7pm Kimberley Town Council Clerk, Lisa Brown, officially welcomed everyone as well as the official guests.

Johanna from IKEA gave a presentation on behalf of their Soft Toys Charity campaign. This was followed by a selection of songs by children from Hollywell Primary School.

The finale saw the Mayor accompanied by the Mayoress of the Borough of Broxtowe Cllr Stan Hepinstall MBE switching on the lights followed by a fantastic firework display.

Soul Town Six continued entertaining the crowds whilst they visited the many seasonal stalls on the streets and in the Parish Hall. Special guest, Santa was extremely busy all evening as hundreds of children queued to see him.

Karen Tennant, of Kimberley Town Council, who organised the switch-on, said: “It was a successful evening enjoyed by everyone, providing a magnificent start to the festive season in Kimberley.”
