BRINSLEY Carnival committee is desperately appealing for more members in one last ditch attempt to resurrect the popular annual event in time for next year.
The committee is holding a meeting on September 14, asking for anybody interested in joining the committee to come along and help make the 2012 event happen.
Down to just four members, the struggling committee held a similar meeting appealing for new members back in February this year, and when no-one came forward the event was cancelled.
They are now holding a second meeting to try and get the carnival – which has been running for over 50 years – back up and running in time for next year.
But they said if nobody turns up, the funds will be shared among community groups in the village and the popular annual event will be axed for good.
Group member Dawn Potts said after the February meeting many people complained they did not know about it, so she has made extra efforts this time around.
“Last time people didn’t turn up and they said they didn’t know anything about it so this time we’ve advertised it on the website, on facebook and we’ve put posters up in the Post Office and around the village.”
One of the organisers of Ilkeston carnival has agreed to go along to the meeting to try and help revive the event and offer advice.
At least another four more volunteers are needed for next year’s event to go ahead.
“All we can do is try,” said Ms Potts.
The meeting will be held at Brinsley parish Hall on September 14 at 7.30pm.
The committee will be at the Brinsley Headstocks open day this Sunday handing out leaflets and promoting the meeting.
