Time will be called at a pub in Giltbrook after it announced that it would be closing early in the new year.
The New White Bull on Nottingham Road will close on January 7 to become a Co-operative supermarket.
The pub has been on the market since early last year but has now been sold to Central England Co-operative who will covert it into a supermarket to serve the Giltbrook area.
Greene King which owns the pub said that due to continuing investment in the future of Greene King pubs, occasionally the company has to make the difficult decision to sell a pub.
A spokesperson for Greene King added: “The deadline for an offer from the community expired with no offers forthcoming and our attempts to find a strong tenant to run the pub for the long-term were unsuccessful.
“As a result, after carefully considering all our options we have sold the pub to, which will provide new local, sustainable jobs and a much needed community service.”
Central England Co-operative has yet to announce a date when the new shop will open after being converted.
Greene King said that after the pub closes there are other pubs in the area which are open and will be very welcoming.
They added: “Jamie and the team at the nearby Foresters Arms will be offering a very warm welcome to the New White Bull’s current customers and we very much hope to see them soon.”
