Lawrence land aired on BBC 1

The countryside known to Eastwood-born writer DH Lawrence as the ‘Country of My Heart’ will be showcased to a national audience this weekend on BBC Countryfile.

Countryfile and The One Show presenter Matt Baker visited the DH Lawrence Birthplace Museum, Beauvale Priory and local countryside for the piece, which will be broadcast on BBC One on Sunday September 16 at 7.30pm.

The programme will feature an interview with the Dh Lawrence Heritage Centre’s heritage assistant, Jackie Greaves, who will share her expert knowledge about how Eastwood’s rich mining heritage and the beauty of the surrounding countryside was vividly described in much of Lawrence’s work.

The presenter also visited the preserved remains of the 14th century Beauvale Priory, where he interviewed Beauvale Abbey Farm’s Ann Whyte about the site’s fascinating history as the one-time home to a silent Carthusian Order of monks for over two centuries.
